Wii

A little extra price for the games this week, and only two of them. But both being games unavailable in the US, they may still be worth getting

Sin and Punishment (2000, N64, 1 player, 1200 Points):
14-1.jpg14-2.jpg
One of the greatest N64 games you never played. It’s well worth playing, but $12 is a little steep.

Super Mario Bros 2 (Jap) / The Lost Levels (1986, NES, 1 player, 600 Points):
15-1.jpg15-2.jpg
So you think your good at SMB? If you never played the SNES Mario Allstars collection then you may be in for a shock here. Definitely worth $6 for any true Mario fan

Today only Amazon.com are selling Wii HD Link Component Cable for the Nintendo Wii for $8.99, reduced from $19.99 with free shipping if you add another $16.01 to your cart

The unofficial version of the component cables are now on sale today at Amazon, as these are unofficial these run the risk of being inferior to the ones sold previously. One Amazon review reports colour distortion also, so check reviews before you buy

Nothing worth the visit to the shopping channel today folks.

Super Thunder Blade (1988, Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Points):
11-1.jpg11-2.jpg
The Genesis never had a shortage of After Burners and Space Harriers. If you’d pay $8 for either of those games then Thunder Blade might be up your alley.

Yoshi’s Story (1998, N64, 1 player, 1000 Points):
12-1.jpg12-2.jpg
I really wanted to like this game when it was first released, but compared to Yoshi’s Island SNES & DS, this really feels below par. If your craving your Yoshi’s then give it a try

World Class Baseball (1988, TurboGrafx16, 1-2 players, 600 Points):
13-1.jpg13-2.gif
Another genericTG16 game, and a sports game no less.

A couple of goodies this week, Sonic is well worth getting, if you haven’t already played all the life from it over the last 10+ years

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (1994, Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Points):
8-1.jpg8-2.png
To me, Sonic 3 represents Sonic at the top of his game, if S&K was locked onto this it then it’d be the best Sonic game that could ever hit the VC.
(YouTube)

NES Play Action Football (1990, NES, 1-4 players, 500 Points):
9-1.jpg9-2.jpg
Call me crazy, but NES football games just fail on their premice alone, the 4 player could save this game a little though, only a $1.25 each!
(YouTube)

Neutopia II (1991, TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Points):
10-1.jpg10-2.jpg
If you liked the origional Neotopia back on 8/20 then here’s more Zelda style RPG for you

Wii, Deals & Bargins, Avatar Mark Dell11 Sep 2007 06:46 am

Today only Amazon.com are selling Avatar: The Last Airbender for the Nintendo Wii at $19.99 reduced from $29.99 with free shipping if you add another $5.01 to your order.

Only for hardcore Avatar fans, most reviews score this very low and complain greatly about the games repetitiveness.

A slightly unusual collection of four games this week with some double nesige.

Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole (1993, Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Points):
4-1.JPG4-2.jpg
I tried out Landstalker quickly on Gametap, it behaves much like a Action/puzzle/rpg but unlike most games of this ilk, it plays from an isometric perspective, which can make many of the sections of the game that require good depth perception quite confusing.

Donkey Kong Jr. Math (1985, NES, 1-2 players, 500 Points):
5-1.jpg5-2.jpg
I last played DKJrM inside of Animal Crossing for the cube, the two player is fair, but it all feels like a long minigame
(YouTube)

Adventure Island (1988, NES, 1 player, 500 Points):
6-1.jpg6-2.gif
A quirky platformer, pretty run of the mill but it sounds like you aren’t able to walk to the left.. I’ve not had the pleasure of Adventure Island, so I can’t comment
(YouTube)

Bonk 3: Bonk’s Big Adventure (1993, Turbografx-16, 1-2 player, 600 Points):
7-1.jpg7-2.png
A class platformer, it feels like an old Amiga game to me, but it has the blessing of co-op multiplayer which is the rarest thing for a platform game to have.

I totally recommend all three games this week, total A class games.

Ghouls ‘n Ghosts (1989, Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Points):
1-1.jpg1-2.jpg
Despite my best efforts I was never able to get very far into Ghouls ‘n ghosts on any of the various systems it appeared on. The Genesis did have a easier difficulty in it’s favor to keep you sane and in many ways the gameplay and even graphics still hold up today.
(YouTube)

Super Contra (1990, NES, 1-2 players, 500 Points):
2-1.jpg2-2.jpg
Contra, one tough series of games. I loved Super C when it was first released on the NES, perhaps I’ve grown weak over the years, but this is a very hard game to get back into. Perhaps I can’t get used to not calling it Probotector 2.
(YouTube)

Breath of Fire II (1995, SNES, 1 player, 800 Points):
3-1.jpg3-2.jpg
Wow a top class SNES RPG here, you have at least 20+ hours of a great RPG experience ahead of you if you purchase this for $8.

I totally recommend all three games this week, total A class games.

• Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master (1993, Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Points):
11.jpeg12.png
Everyone loves a Ninja, I recently played this on GameTap and it’s still a great time. If you’ve never played a Shinobi game before then you are missing out on a series of side-scrolling Ninja games, not too much unlike many of the run and gun games that appeared around this time, except it has Ninja’s and is awesome.
(YouTube)

• Neutopia (1989, TurboGraf×16, 1 player, 600 Points):
21.png22.png
Neutopia is an action RPG where you view the gameworld from an overhead perspective. You visit cities, fight in labyrinths (dungeons) with bosses at the end, you also collect weapons like the sword, bombs and fire staff, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s an ocarina in here somewhere. Whoops! Did I just drop a Zelda reference? Neutopia is heavily inspired by the Zelda series, but that’s a great thing as there’s nothing wrong with imitating the best
(YouTube)

• Super Metroid (1994, SNES, 1 player, 800 Points):
31.jpg32.png
Hardly surprising to see this here today, since it’s the only other Metroid game for the systems that the Virtual console supports, hopefully Nintendo will expand onto the Gameboy systems to add a little more Metroid fun to the Wii, allowing you to own the entire series. But until my dreamworld becomes reality we have Super Metroid for the SNES, side-scrolling shooters reached their peak with Super Metroid and is another game that’s well worth downloading

A couple of games here that I’d personally never heard of, and one I won’t forget.

• Shining in the Darkness (1991, Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Points):
shining-darkness-1.gifshining-darkness-2.gif
Another old style dungeon crawl. From what I’ve heard and have briefly played it’s a pretty un-remarkable game
(No videos, sorry)

• Cratermaze (1990, TurboGraf×16, 1 player, 600 Points):
cratermaze-1.jpgcratermaze-2.jpg
More than just a overhead Loderunner this game has some really good gameplay. I didn’t get to play it for long but I can imagine some serious challenge on some later levels. I’ll be going back to play this one a little more
(youtube)

• Metroid (1987, NES, 1 player, 500 Points):
nes-metroid-box.jpgmetroid_nes_screenshot4.jpg
An unsurprising release considering the recent Metroid preview channel, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t nice to see it listed amongst the greats on our Wii menu. I’d wholeheartedly recommend downloading, unless you’ve already beaten the dozen times already.

melee_samus.jpg

Samus is finally getting some attention from Nintendo and now they are making up for neglecting this lovely lady. Nintendo has pronounced the month of August 2007 the “Month of Metroid”. To start off with the Nintendo Wii has a new Metroid Prime 3: Corruption preview channel. There you can check out some game play videos of the new Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and I have to say this has gotten me super excited about this game. Hopefully Nintendo will see the success this preview channel has and open up a general preview channel for all their box games as well as their download offerings on the Virtual Console. Then through out the month of August the Virtual Console is going to give it up to Samus. To head things off August 13th Metroid for the NES explodes on to the Virtual Console. So crack open the No Doz and pour the coffee because you will need hit this one long and hard because seven days after that Super Metroid will be thrust onto the Virtual Console. Go pick up that big case of Red Bull and play hard because to you will need to get this game done in seven days and that will bring you right up to August 27th, and that is the day that all the other women in your life are going to kiss you good bye because you will belong to Samus and the chances of you coming back any time soon are pretty slim but anyone else in your life can always sit by the phone and hope that your Wii pulls an Xbox 360 and red rings!
